Once again I’m planning a Bike Travel Weekend Overnight Trip from New Glarus to Blue Mounds State Park on Saturday & Sunday June 5th and 6th.

We will start riding from the Sugar River Trail Parking lot on Railroad St in New Glarus at 10am on Saturday June 5th and ride 40 miles to Blue Mounds State Park. We’ll ride the Badger State Trail to Fitchburg. Then we will hop over to the Military Ridge Trail in Verona and ride to Blue Mounds State Park. Spend Saturday night camping at Blue Mounds. Sunday we will ride 25 miles on the roads back to New Glarus. On Saturday there are planned breaks at the Tuvalu Coffee House in Verona and the Riley Tap.

For people new to self-contained bicycle touring this overnight ride is a great introduction to touring and would be a good tune-up for those going on the Door County Ride in July. This ride is camping only as there aren’t any hotels near enough so you will need a tent and sleeping gear. Cooking gear is optional, we will be eating in restaurants but due to COVID, If your not comfortable going into restaurants then you will need buy food to cook at the campsite. We won’t need trail passes for that weekend because the first full weekend in June is Wisconsin State Park Free Fun Weekend.

I reserved a bike site #105 at Blue Mounds State Park for Saturday. So far there are 5 people who have committed going. As of right now there are plenty of camp sites available. The other bike sites are still open so we have room to expand.

Let me know if you plan to ride so we can get enough campsites.
